PADI Freediver (Open Water 10m)
Begin your freediving journey. Train in the pool, certify in open water, and learn to descend to 10 metres safely.
Highlights
- Train in pool then certify in open water to 10 metres
- Static apnea, dynamic apnea, and depth disciplines
- Safety, buddy, and rescue procedures
- Internationally recognised PADI Freediver card
How the course unfolds
- 01
Phase 1: eLearning
Self paced PADI eLearning covering breath physiology, equalisation, safety procedures, and freediving disciplines. Complete before your first in water session so pool time stays focused on technique.
- 02
Phase 2: Shallow Pool Coaching
Shallow water sessions to build relaxation, breathing, and finning fundamentals. Static apnea, dynamic apnea, and rescue drills with a buddy. We work at a pace that keeps you comfortable.
- 03
Phase 3: Deep Pool Coaching
Deep pool sessions to introduce vertical descent, equalisation under pressure, and free immersion. Buoyancy, body position, and turn technique before any open water work.
- 04
Phase 4: Open Water
Open water dives where you put it all together. Constant weight descents, safety procedures, and surface protocol. Certification on successful skill completion at depth.
By the end you’ll
- Confident static and dynamic apnea fundamentals
- Constant weight descents and ascents to 10 metres
- Buddy safety, rescue, and surface protocol
- PADI Freediver certification recognised worldwide
Course requirements
What every student completes to finish this course.
Complete the e-learning module
Required to complete
Finish the PADI Freediver e-learning, including the knowledge reviews and final quiz, before in-water sessions begin.
Confined water: shallow pool coaching
Required to complete
Complete the shallow-end confined-water session: breath-up, static apnea, recovery breathing, and surface rescue tow. Foundational drills before moving to the deep end.
Confined water: deep pool coaching
Required to complete
Complete the deep-end confined-water session: duck dive, equalisation on descent, finning along the bottom, and a controlled ascent. Pre-requisite for open-water dives.
Buddy protocol at 5m
Required to complete
Act as safety for a buddy diving to 5m: matched descent timing, meet at the safety stop depth, escort to the surface, and observe 30 seconds of recovery breathing.
Rescue at 5m with 15m surface tow
Required to complete
Recover an unresponsive diver from 5m, bring them to the surface in control, remove their mask, perform rescue breaths, and tow them 15m on the surface with simulated revival cues.
Free immersion (FIM) at 10m
Target: 10 m
Pull down the line to 10m using arms only (no fins), turn at the plate, and pull back up to a clean surface protocol.
Constant weight (CWT) at 10m
Target: 10 m
Descend to 10m in constant weight (fins or monofin) under your own power, turn at the plate, and ascend with a clean surface protocol.
Dynamic with bifins (DYN-B) at 25m
Target: 25 m
Swim 25m or more horizontally on a single breath with bifins, holding streamline and recovering cleanly.
Static apnea (STA) at 1:30
Target: 1m 30s
Hold the breath face-down on the surface for 1 minute 30 seconds or longer with a buddy running tap signals, then complete the recovery breathing protocol.
